Facts About Mount Everest
Mount Everest was formed 60 million years ago between Tibet and Nepal. The mountain is 29,035 ft. (8850 m.). The mountain is named after Sir George Everest in 1865 (known as Peak 15 before 1865). Mount Everest has 2 different names from Tibet and Nepal. In Tibet, they call the mountain Chomolunga (mother goddess of the universe). In Nepal, they call the mountain Sagarmartha (goddess of the sky). As of 2012, 3,100 people have made 5,100 climbs. There have been 220 deaths on Everest (mostly in the 1990's).
